Our March Membership Meeting has been postponed 1 week due to the snow and will kick-off at 7:00 on March 20th at the Train Depot with a presentation followed by a tour of the Welfare Building. (Click on the title above for more details.)
If you have been to Chelsea, we hope you haven’t missed one of the grandest buildings from our industrial heritage – The Welfare Building.
Greg Raye and HK Leonard, owners and proprietors of both the Chelsea Farmers Supply and the Welfare Building, will be talking to us about the architecture and rich history (it was built as part of the Glazier Stove Company). For many years it was also the home of the Chelsea Standard newspaper. HK’s parents were the owners and editors of the Chelsea Standard for 48 years.
We will be meeting in the Train Depot first for our business portion of the meeting and Greg’s talk. Then we will walk over to the Welfare Building for a personal tour of the building including a look at one of the original printing presses from its newspaper days. If you have mobility issues, you can drive over to the Welfare Building after the initial meeting at the depot.
So please join us to learn the interesting history about one of our most prized Chelsea buildings. Also this will be a great opportunity to visit with your Chelsea Area Historical Society friends.
